A FREE program for all young numismatists! Due to the generosity of our dealers, the kids will take away many coins and other souvenirs as well as learn a little about the hobby.
12:30-1:30 PM - Two Amazing Years - 1870 and 1873 John Frost
Two years have a special place in the history of coinage in the United States. The construction of a new San Francisco Mint, the opening of the Carson City Mint, followed later by the Mint Act of 1873, both changed the coinage of the United States forever, and at the same time created some of the greatest rarities this country has ever seen. Come back in time and relive the fascinating stories of their creation, and learn about gradual discovery over the next 100 years. You will be glad you did. These two years: 1870 and 1873.
John has collected coins for 35 years, and specializes in Barber coins, odd-ball denominations, and key dates, and pretty much anything unusual or rare. He is webmaster for tbe Barber Coin Collectors' Society.
